Distributed-Site Data Monitoring Solution Based on SCADA Software

Many projects involve sites scattered across the country, often resulting in chaotic management and low efficiency. With the advance of Industrial IoT, devices can now be networked and monitored from the cloud, enabling remote supervision and management, improving both productivity and the after-sales experience.

Current scenario  
Multiple sites are spread across different provinces and cities. Each site contains PLCs from various brands and with different interfaces, network cameras, data loggers, and sensors. Field data must be transmitted to a remote data-center SCADA package for monitoring. This can be achieved with Wutongbolian Industrial Smart Gateways, giving administrators real-time visibility into equipment status and process parameters, and allowing prompt action when faults or anomalies occur.

Solution

1. Ethernet-based field devices are connected to an Industrial Smart Gateway for data acquisition and communication. If no fixed public IP is available, a VPN network is required. An L2TP VPN server (with a fixed public IP) is deployed to create a virtual private LAN, through which the SCADA software accesses and monitors the site.

2. Serial PLCs on site are linked to an Industrial Smart Gateway. The gateway collects data and uploads it via 5G/4G/Wi-Fi/Ethernet to a cloud-based SCADA platform or an on-premises SCADA host, enabling remote SCADA monitoring of distant sites.

The distributed-site monitoring system is used in flood control, wastewater monitoring, river-level and hydrological monitoring, environmental protection, meteorology, seismic monitoring, power-grid monitoring, and more.
